Nothing new or interesting to post today. Sorry, folks. It only took me 3 days to run out of stuff to talk about on here! Once again, I got side-tracked from school work by logging on to blogspot. This time though, I couldn't stop watching youtube videos -including ones that I've already seen a million times. This blog thing seems to have a procrastinating effect on me which I don't really like seeming that I'm the biggest anti-procrastinator ever. It's weird to think about...this blog is for a school assignment so am I really procrastinating and wasting time if it's for homework purposes? Hmmm....
Anyway, I was luckily not off task TOO long this time but I did come across one of my favorite youtube videos (2 actually-but they go together)that I haven't watched in forever. It was a nice refresher from school work even if it did make me unproductive for a bit :)
Oh! And I must say it again. I've loved hearing from you guys! Thanks!
Ok, you MUST watch the first link before the second one. You'll see :)

This is NOT Ice Cream!
I love, love, love ice cream and think it's so cruel for it to be so unhealthy. I have a huge sweet tooth and try hard not to over indulge too much by eatting smaller servings (which doesn't always work and isn't much fun) or by getting the low-calore/low-fat-sugar free stuff that isn't quite as good as the real stuff but I've been able to find some pretty tasty alternatives.
I went grocery shopping last night and picked out some rather delicious looking Weight Watchers ice cream. I was looking forward to it all through lunch today and couldnt' wait for my sugar fix only to be disappointed (and some what offended) by the repulsive, disgusting, and sugar-coated-grainy-cardboard-tasting "ice cream" that was in the package.
Below is a picture of this so-called "premium ice" that I hope can save people from purchasing and having to endure the wretched taste inside their mouthes.

I'm quite familiar with Weight Watchers and their Point System and being able to find a tasty treat for only 2 points can be quite exciting when you're on a diet. This ice cream was indeed 2 points-two points way down for charging me almost $5 for 2 tiny tubs of crap!
On a side note, I think the whole obesity epidemic in this country is a little ridiculous. While it's important to show the health pros/cons of healthy eatting and exercise to families and individuals, it's the advertising industry and trends that need a wake up call. Celebrity endorsements, product placement, fake advertising, and persuasive ads that lead people too believe that buying certain products and foods will allow them to be more successful/beautiful/smart/popular, etc are way too affective and strongly influence people's habits.
Here's the thing. I try not to buy into everything I see in advertisements for these products -it's the costs that really get to me. Being healthy can be so much more expensive than not caring what I put into my body. Buying fresh produce and foods lower in fat, sugar, carbs are often twice as expensive as regular products or fast foods that are quicker, more convenient and cheaper. It's frustrating! Do I want to eat right and have no money to spend on other things or do I want to spend less money on less healthy foods and gain weight?
I've spoken to a number of my friends about this in multiple conversations and it's nice to have people that can relate who are experiencing similar frustrations. Sure, I can just give in and eat the unhealthy stuff and just exercize more but for how long will that be affective? Any thoughts on the matter? Yes or no, I hope my little rant and "ice cream" experience can help you the next time you reach into the freezer for healthier alternatives.

Day Two!
First off, let me say thanks to everyone who commented on my first blog. Your input makes me feel as though wasting two hours in order to write it wasn't a complete waste of time. Something that I really enjoyed was getting to hear from people that I don't communicate with as often as I would like (my brother, friends from home, people at Schreiner I don't see on a regular basis, Holly Clark, etc). I loved hearing from you guys!
Someone who commented on my first entry (a very wise and bald individual by the name of Andrew Bell) asked an interesting question about how one becomes a professional blogger and how much they make. I did some research it turns out that some journalist bloggers can make between $10,000-$20,000 per month or roughly $100,000-$200,000 annually. I think that's absolutely crazy! For one, I sit around on my ass every day sharing my own opinions and discussing current events and don't make a single dime doing it yet as soon as someone posts their thoughts online and slaps a company affiliation on it, boom, they're frickin' rich?! I'm not sure how I feel about that. Hopefully, further research for our group project will clarify the reasoning behind that.
On a side note, I finished my research paper and am relieved to have it done. I'm heading home to Austin for the Easter weekend and didn't want the thought of an unfinished paper interrupting my (hopefully) relaxing time away from school.
Easter. I think it's interesting. I grew up in a Christian household where Easter was celebrated every year but I always looked forward to the candy and Easter basket the most as a kid. I remember one year when I was about 5 years old I pitched a fit and my mom told me that the Easter bunny would come back to the house while we were at church and take away my Easter basket and eat all my candy. You can believe that that got me to shut up! Speaking of the Easter bunny, how did the whole rabbit-layinig-eggs, chocolate candy, and pastel color template come about for a holiday that's purpose is to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ? I searched online and couldn't find anything very informative so I gave up. Does anybody know or have their own theories on it? Feedback in general?

"Insert catchy blog title Here"
"Your blog has been created! Congratulations! You now have yet another place online where you can waste time when you should be doing a million other things!" This was the message I received from blogspot.com once I completed making an account. Ok, maybe not the second part but that's what the exclamation point made me think. Is it really supposed to be that exciting? Because to me, it's not. Sorry.
I'm actually starting this blog for a school project in one of my classes. Can you guess what it's about? Blogs! Well...kind of. Hannah, Ali, Mark, and I are supposed to research the different fundamentals of blogs and what implications they have on the mass media, politics, different societies, and in culture. We're also writing blogs (the one you're reading right now) in order to get some first-hand feedback. So if nobody reads it or responds/comments back then....I guess we're kinda outta luck.
The thing is that I actually do like blogs. Just not mine. I feel pressure to produce something interesting or in the least, something that won't piss someone off or bore anyone. So I apologize in advance if that's the case. I like reading other people's blogs whether they're by people I know, celebrities, or professional bloggers. I can't say that I never liked having my own blog because I used to write blog entries every now and then on myspace up until about a year ago....as did Hannah. Sorry, Hannahface. Try not to be too embarrassed, dear. Good thing you deleted them all or I'd go back and look at them now ;)
Ok, so that's really all I have right now. I'm supposed to be writing an ethnography for my family communication class but I kind of got off track by getting on blogspot and then being compelled to also check facebook, perezhilton.com, cnn.com, check yahoo email, and a headline story on yahoo news that caught my eye, "Ohio man charged with drunken driving on bar stool" (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/odd_bar_stool_dui;_ylt=AlB28bBKiv_GglJEcvHmoz.fr7sF)
that got me thinking about how someone would go about motorizing a bar stool so then I had to investigate a bit. So in all....I lost about 2 hrs worth of valuable ethnography-writing time. I'll admit though, I did enjoy the "process" of this and learned some interesting but still rather unimportant stuff. Maybe I'll have something more exciting to talk about tomorrow? We'll see!
